Elite Engineers Forum: Associate Professor Olivier Monfort from Comenius University Delivers a Lecture at Our School
2026-05-18

On May 11, 2026, Associate Professor Olivier Monfort, Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at Comenius University in Slovakia and a notable young scholar, was invited to deliver a research lecture at our school.

First, Daqing Jia, Director of CTI Certification Training Center, introduced the structure and flagship programs of East China University of Science and Technology, as well as the French elite engineer training model of the International Elite Engineering School. Subsequently, Associate Professor Olivier Monfort delivered an academic presentation titled MXenes: Amazing Nanomaterials in the Design of Efficient Heterogeneous AOP Catalysts to our students.

Drawing on the latest findings from his research team, Associate Professor Monfort explained in accessible terms how MXenes play a key role in heterogeneous catalytic advanced oxidation processes - whether through the construction of composite materials, the derivation of oxides, or as carrier platforms - offering highly innovative technical solutions to address the pressing challenges of water pollution. He also introduced his department and invited students to visit for academic exchanges or to pursue masters and doctoral degrees.

Finally, Dr Chen Zuan from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering presented his work on the transformation of organic pollutants and interfacial reactions in heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes. Then he engaged in an in-depth discussion with Associate Professor Monfort regarding the generation and transfer processes of phenolic radicals.

Following the lecture, accompanied by Director Daqing Jia, Associate Professor Olivier Monfort visited the key laboratories of School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering and School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, where they discussed the practical applications of AOPs in water treatment.

This lecture not only broadened the international horizons of our faculty and students, but also provided our students with valuable opportunities for further study abroad. In the future, the two universities are expected to engage in deeper cooperation in advancing environmental functional materials from basic research to practical applications.
